Umm...sorry if you find my question stupid but I am in the habit of 
asking stupid questions. Did you check the md5 sum / sha1 sum of the 
file that you downloaded? Many times the download gets corrupted. It 
has happened to me a lot with XMMS skins and such files ( esp. tar.gz 
ones ).
