Log into the gui as root and simply run the network setup wizard. The ip 
and dns settings are given in the earlier mail on this topic. Anyway 
here they are.  Save your settings and reboot. Thats all for a short cut 
method.

IP       192.168.1.2
Subnet   255.255.255.0
Gateway  192.168.1.1

DNS    203.94.227.70
&      203.94.243.70

All this is assuming that you got MTNL triband. If you got BSNL then use 
their settings.
