Hi all <br><br>here is a brief report about the 3 day workshop about "Managing and Securing Compute Labs using Free and Open source Softwares, which was Supported and Facilitated by Department of M.C.A of R.V.College of Engineering and FSUG-B'lore<br>

The participants were one of those who would be managing the computer labs in the in their respective department.<br>
<br>3 participants from PES Institute of Technology Bangalore (College network admin + two lab administrators )<br><br>1 participant from RNS Institute of Technology ( network administrator )<br><br>1 participant from BMS Institute of technology ( network administrator ) <br>
<br>2 participants from industry attended the workshop.<br><br>On Day 1 morning sessions text based installation and GUI based installation were <a href="http://done.in">done.in</a> the afternoon session USB installation , and boot loader issues were addressed <br>
<br>On day 2 Samba , LDAP , DHCP related topics were covered and in the after noon clonezilla was demonstrated and also participants practised by creating a separate LAN<br><br>On day 3 few topics were redone and participants were asked to demonstrate whatever they had learnt <br>
<br>there was a session about some of the network monitoring and securing tools like tcpdump, iftop, iptables <br><br>later configuring the server for developing web applications using php / mysql tomcat and also configuring CGI according to the BE CSE /ISE were done <br>
<br>there were small sessions which demonstrated DTP softwares , Office suit , educational suit etc..<br><br>Thanks to abhas and his team ( deeprootlinux ) for all their efforts in making the participants capable of managing ans securing computer labs in more efficient and effective way.<br>
<br>All the participants have given a very good feedback about the resource person and the topics but also have suggested that to redo some of the topics in more detail.<br><br>will be uploading the photos soon -- all the links are blocded in the network where i am rignt now <br>
