TITLE: THE FREE SOFTWARE FOUNDATION
Speaker: Y. Kiran Chandra
The Free Software is a growing movement. It is based on the idea that
people could use computers in freedom. With proprietary software, a
company controls what you can do with your computer and patenting
obstructs the progress in the software field.
Free Software is a mattter of freedom, not price- freedom to help yoursef,
and freedom to help your neighbour as well . It is a matter of community.
In the free software field, half a million free software developers from
six continents work together, organizing their own forms of co operation
with no overall authority , resulting in a large body of software,
thousands of packages for wide variety of jobs.
The Free Software Foundaton is holding an International Conference in
Bangalore on 23-24th August, 2006.
