Was able to fix the problem,The issue seems to be that the rare wares
libfaad2 has some issues with Christan Marillat debian mplayer packages.

So I comment out the rare wares deb entry in sources.list.And did a
reinstall of libfaad2.

apt-get install --reinstall libfaad2-0=2.0.0-0.5

Now my mplayer is working fine.Perhaps if you better method of dealing
with this problem do let me know.
