Found an interesting link at Sourceforge to a Microsoft "guide" to
  schools for accepting donated computers.

  http://www.microsoft.com/education/?id=3DDonatedComputers

The article in a typical threating tone keeps telling educationists
facing a crash-crunch and accepting donated computers, that=20

  "
  [...]

   Q. Why should a donor include the operating system with their PC
      donation?=20
   A. It is a legal requirement that pre-installed operating
systems remain with a machine for the life of the machine. If a
company or individual donates a machine to your school, it must be
donated with the operating system that was installed on the PC.

  [...]
  "

(Don't forget taking a look at the link to School subscription
licences at the end of the "guide".)

Pure FUD, which instead of implying that OEM licences are only valid
on the machine it was installed on, insists that it is the other way
around - that the machine is only valid or legal if the OEM license is
donated (and ofcourse used) along with the machine.

So all those planning on donating branded machines to schools so that
they run more affordable OSes are actually made out to be legal
  offendors.

What is worrying is how many "progressive" school staff are
brainwashed by M$ sales people by mentioning these kind of hogwash.
There are many schools in India itself who are "supported" by M$
software, which M$ then proudly displays to the govt. as their
contribution to Indian education. Is this one of the ways that they
get to "support" education in India?
