The GNU GPL says that you can modify the source, thereby fixing
your problem.  The fixed, made-better software can be 
re-distributed.  Maybe you should pay the upstream author of 
this GPLed software to give you a special life-time warranty. ;-)

Let me ask you a pointed query.  What warranty does the firm from
Redmond give you when you call them up and say that you have a
hard-lockup (BSD) ?  Reboot the machine, sir...

The GPL gives you an option to fix the problem or hire someone
who can do this for you for a fee.
