Now that the record labels are starting to drop DRM, major retailers like
Amazon are announcing their plans to start distributing music
unencumbered by
DRM. This is a huge victory against Microsoft's efforts, and it shows that
Vista-like restrictions are not what people want.

MP3 and AACS are currently the favored formats for music distribution.
Microsoft is also pushing its own proprietary formats. But in the USA
they are
all encumbered by software patents. Since it is the music fan who ends up
paying the costs of these patents---now is the time to encourage
retailers to
switch to the Ogg format. Ogg is ethically, legally and technically
superior to
MP3 and AACS.

PlayOgg.org is a campaign just launched by the FSF to encourage users and
retailers to switch to the Ogg format.

Help raise the profile of music file formats unencumbered by software
patents - Digg this!
