IBM ThinkPads are the most Free Software compatible ones.
I recommend IBM T21to T23 on the lower end and  IBM T40 to T43
on the higher end.   IBM X40 is sleek, light weight, 8 hrs battery but 
costly.

FSF-US gives IBM Thinkpads for FSF Sys Admins.
