About the Speaker & Talk:

Prof. John Willinsky is currently the Pacific Press Professor of Literacy and Technology in the Department of Language and Literacy 
Education at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He holds prestigious Mac 
Arthur Fellowship. He directs the Public Knowledge Project, which is dedicated to developing online conferences, journals, and indexing 
systems that improve the scholarly and public quality of academic research. He is also an expert in using technology in literacy 
efforts. 

Prof. John Willinsky will address on the current situation around electronic access to research and its potential for the future under 
different models.  He will also demonstrate the potential of new open source systems, some of which have been developed by him, in 
assisting the existing and new Indian journals in moving into an online environment in ways that improve both the scholarly and public 
quality of the research.

It may be noted that the open access project is making the information available to researchers using open systems which are 
free. It is more towards information handling and sharing and bridge the digital divide. It will also deal with knowledge creation, PR 
issues, copyright, self archiving and digital libraries.
