1, 3, 5 and 6 of the above apply to proprietary s/w also. Of course, (2) 
cannot apply at all to proprietary s/w. 4 can apply when the third party 
vendor is the 'chosen one' for customisation by the 'owner' of 
proprietary s/w.  (in the real world, they are called 'value added 
re-sellers' - VARs).
